What is supported living?
Supported living in the community refers to a housing arrangement where individuals receive personal care and support while living independently in their own rented accommodation or homes. In this setup, the personal care services and housing arrangements are managed through separate agreements, often with local authorities or registered housing associations. Funding for housing typically comes from the individual’s benefits or earnings, while support services are provided by care providers like Scarlet Care, funded by local councils and sometimes the NHS.
The core themes of supported living emphasize engagement, involvement, inclusiveness, and enablement. The aim is to foster individual development, independence, and active participation in the community. Support may include developmental, therapeutic, and vocational opportunities, enabling individuals to access meaningful employment, education, and community activities, tailored to their needs and aspirations.
